Terrible news for this young player, who was living his dream having joined one of the world’s largest clubs just a year ago.
23 year old Brazilian midfielder Lucas Silva, who plays for Spanish giants Real Madrid, has announced his retirement from football.
Silva joined the Champions League holders from Cruzeiro last year, and spent the season on loan at Marseile in France.
With a post on Instagram Sunday, Silva revealed that he was retiring from the game, posting on his status “I fought the good fight, I finished my career, I have kept the faith.”
Silva over the weekend had failed his medical tests prior to joining his new club Sporting Lisbon on loan, with the club announcing the cancellation of the deal due to discovery of a preexisting heart condition.
It seems Silva himself was not aware of the condition, and the revelation by Lisbon has led to his taking the decision to step down.
Best of luck to him in whatever new endeavour he decided to tackle now that his dream is off the table.
