Speaking on the RedMen TV, Goal’s Neil Jones has been discussing the links between Liverpool and Teun Koopmeiners that have been emerging in recent weeks.

The Dutch midfielder is reportedly a player that is being tracked by the Reds at the moment, and Jones is led to believe that there is some truth in these rumours.

The journalist noted that the 24-year-old does tick a lot of boxes in terms of experience, age profile and talent, but he did note that he’s not the club’s top target.

Indeed, Jones says that Koopmeiners is on Liverpool’s list in case moves for their top targets don’t come off, so he seems to be one to keep in mind.

Liverpool have Koopmeiners on their list

The reporter shared what he knows about this interest.

“I think he’s a name on a list. If you look at a more general point. There are a few players who have been linked to Liverpool where it would be a move away from where they’ve been. You look at 18-19 year old unknown midfielders, that would be a leap for Liverpool to start doing that for good money,” Jones said.

“Look at the players they’ve bought for the first-team in recent years. Jota, Konate, Fabinho, Keita, Mane, Salah. They’ve all been 21 to 25, 150/200 games, international or European experience, from a club below Liverpool’s standing.

“Teun Koopmeiners fits that bill, he scored on Monday night, so in that sense he fits the bill. You have the data there to say, yes, ok. He does tick boxes, Atalanta play a high intensity system.

“I would say that Koopmeiners is one that is on a list in case so-and-so doesn’t happen rather than it being Koopmeiners is the one.”

Good alternative

Liverpool seemingly have some huge names in mind for their midfield revamp – Jude Bellingham and Enzo Fernandez are seemingly two names high on their list, but if those mega deals don’t happen, Koopmeiners wouldn’t be a bad alternative.

A talented midfielder with a wand of a left-foot, there is a lot to like about the Dutch international and it’s not hard to see why Liverpool may well be keen on the Serie A star.

Keep an eye on this one as Liverpool look to bolster their midfield ranks.
