Heisman Trophy Winners List

HB Chicago In 1935, Jay Berwanger won the Heisman Trophy for the first time. Before the Heisman Trophy Trust was established in 2002. From 1935 through 2001, the Downtown Athletic Club gave out the award.

The Heisman Trophy Trust presents the prize at a separate ceremony to recognize the performance. That most exemplifies the quest for excellence.
