From 1995 to ’96, Joe Thornton began a 2-year career with the Greyhounds of the OHL where he scored 76 points season in his first year and earned the OHL and CHL Rookie of the Year Award. The following season his plays resulted in 41 goals and 122 points getting 2nd overall in League scoring and also became the OHL Second All-Star Team. 

He scored his first NHL goal in December 1997 as a Bruins against the Philadelphia Flyers in a 3-0 win. He got his first 100-point season with 36 goals and 65 assists, ranking 3rd in NHL point-scoring. On March 30, 2006, Thornton scored 92 points in 58 games as a part of the San Jose Sharks. He won the Art Ross Trophy as the league’s top scorer with a leading 96 assists, and 125 points.

During his regular-season plays, he won the Hart Memorial Trophy as the play MVP. At the end of the 2013-14 season, he ranked 46th as an all-time point leader and 24th among the all-time assist leaders in NHL. Thornton recorded his 1000th NHL assist and became the 13th player in NHL history to reach the milestone on March 6, 2017. On January 16, 2021, he scored his first goal as a Leaf and later returned for his 24th NHL season to the Florida Panthers.
