GARDEN CITY, Idaho (CBS2) — Update:
Garden City Police have issued an update on the investigation into a shooting that impacted a quiet neighborhood Wednesday morning. Two suspects are now in custody.
18-year-old Dylan Gilchrest from Garden City was arrested. He is charged with unlawful discharge of a firearm.
A 16-year-old male juvenile was also arrested and is charged with two counts of aggravated assault and attempted murder.
Original story:
Garden City Police told media at a press conference Wednesday morning that officers responded to reports of a shooting at 9:30 a.m. on the 9200 block of Stoneham Dr.
Responding officers heard shots being fired in and from a residence in their direction.
"The police ran toward the sound of gunfire, protecting the innocent people and the neighbors," said interim Garden City Police Chief Cory Stambaugh.
According to Stambaugh, officers learned of an additional occupant besides the shooter and got that person out of the house to safety.
Officers then entered the home, and although two officers fired their weapons, no one was hurt during the incident, and the suspect was taken into custody without further incident.
"When you have an active shooter that's actively shooting out of a house, at neighbors and police, there's often not time to de-escalate, and unfortunately, sometimes how we react is driven by how the suspects are," he said.
The Ada County Critical Incident Task Force was activated, and Boise Police will lead the investigation.
