Josh Maja has admitted that he dreams of signing for Arsenal one day as the Bordeaux striker looks to get to grips with life in Ligue 1, speaking to France Football.

The Lewisham-born youngster became the latest young English talent to try his hand outside the British isles when he swapped Sunderland for Bordeaux in the January transfer window.

Maja scored 15 goals in 23 starts for the Black Cats in the first half of the season and, despite interest from a number of Premier League clubs, made a shock switch to France for a fee of £3.5 million, as reported by The Chronicle.

The one-time Manchester City youngster has endured a slow start to life with Bordeaux, however, failing to score in five league games for the 2009 Ligue 1 champions. So he will need to rediscover his golden touch if he is to catch the eye of his boyhood club.

“(Arsenal) is my local team. Playing in the team I grew up with would be great,” Maja told France Football.

“(The Premier League) is one of the best leagues in the world, with the best teams. I hope that one day I will be able to play there but for now I am with Bordeaux. I want to succeed here.”

Bordeaux could represent a fine stepping stone for Maja as he is more likely to play regular first-team football for Les Girodins than if he had joined one of the biggest clubs in England at the age of 20.
