First off: I <3 this song. It and "Treasured" are probably my two favorite songs in the entire world.

Anyways, I believe that in the beginning when she speaks of "the Queen" that she might be talking about her mother, who might not have been there for her. And when she speaks of "the daughters of Eve" I think she means friendships. People who should be there "through thick and thin" but when you need them they're no where to be found. And the "lovers" who left her could range from parents, friends, and romantic relationships. They all left her feeling like something was missing.

Considering that she's a Christian,(the line "All is vanity underneath the sun" is even taken from the book of Ecclesiastes) I believe she's writing about what was "missing" before she had Christ in her life. That's exactly how I felt before I became a Christian and why I love this song so much because I can relate to that feeling of missing something in my life and the more beautiful after fact when Christ came into my life.
