Fatal high-speed chase ends in tragedy for two teens in Payette County

FRUITLAND, Idaho (CBS2) The Payette County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of two people following a high-speed interstate pursuit. Late Saturday evening, Ontario Police requested assistance from the Payette County Sheriff's Office with a pursuit heading east out of Ontario, Oregon, into Fruitland, Idaho.

Late Saturday evening, Ontario Police requested assistance from the Payette County Sheriff's Office with a pursuit heading east out of Ontario, Oregon, into Fruitland, Idaho.

The suspect was driving a black VW Jetta with no license plates at a high rate of speed with no headlights, according to police.

The Jetta entered Idaho, where Payette County deputies picked up the pursuit and followed the suspect south on Elmore Rd. The vehicle left the roadway and entered a canal, where it struck the side of a concrete bridge near Highway 30.

The vehicle was recovered from the canal with assistance from the New Plymouth Rural Fire Department and several tow truck companies. The Jetta was stolen from Ontario, Oregon. Both occupants, a 19-year-old male driving and a 16-year-old female passenger, were from Nampa. Both were found deceased inside the vehicle.

The cause of death is under investigation and will be updated in this story as CBS2 learns more.
